Few people remember it, but 1987 was the year when the Camaro convertible made a comeback. It was the first time customers could get a Camaro convertible since 1969, as Chevrolet otherwise decided to stick with the coupe (by far the most appealing body style for Camaro buyers).
However, the 1987 Camaro convertible wasn't Chevy's creation. It was a conversion conducted by the American Sunroof Company both before shipping a new Camaro to the buyer and after the delivery was completed.

The starting point for the conversion was a Camaro sporting a T-top, with ASC shipping only a little over 1,000 units for this model year.

The 1987 Camaro in these photos escaped the conversion, retaining its T-top in factory condition. What you see here is a Camaro that was last touched by Chevrolet, as the car has never received any restoration work, major repairs, or upgrades from anybody other than the GM brand or its dealers.

As anyone can easily figure out by clicking the photos in the gallery, it's an IROC-Z model, coming with upgrades that turn it into an even sportier Camaro.

Leaving aside what the eyes can see, it's important to highlight three tidbits that turn the Camaro into a very special 1987 example.

First, it's completely original. The car was taken home by the first owner and parked inside a garage. It was eventually purchased by someone else, but the Camaro continued to remain in hiding, going out only for occasional short drives and car shows. You can tell the owners have meticulously cared for this car, as it remains in its original paint, badges, stickers, and everything else in perfect shape.

It's literally a new car, and the 5.0-liter under the hood starts and runs accordingly. It's not a surprise if you look at the odo. The car's mileage is impressive and confirms it spent many years inside. The odometer indicates just 8.7K miles.

As a time capsule, the Camaro sells with lots of documents to attest to its condition and original coolness. It comes with the original owner's manual, receipts, and even a recall notice from the '90s when Chevrolet released fixes for seat belt buckles.

Such a rare Camaro in unbelievable shape – nearly as it's only now walking away from the Chevy dealership – can't be cheap. And the owner knows it very well, so they listed the car online with a $53K selling price. However, they also enabled the Make Offer button, allowing interested buyers to discuss the price should they want the car.

Meanwhile, the garage in charge of finding new owners (eBay handle callawaycary) lets you see the car in Iowa. Theoretically, you can drive this Camaro home on its wheels, but given its low miles, you'll probably want to take it on a trailer.
