Despite being in production for just 13 years, the Chevrolet Chevelle managed to leave one of the largest marks on the muscle car segment in the U.S. Held in high regard by customers even when it was in production, the Chevelle continues to be a people's favorite to this day, and it gets restored and tuned, then sold and resold at times for sums others usually pay for brand new cars.
As part of our muscle car month, we’ve talked about the Chevelle perhaps more than any other car. We’ve found it in barns, on fields, on sales websites, literally everywhere. And it seems they still keep coming.

The one you see in the gallery above is also up for grabs, this time in Michigan. Its owner asks $49,900 for it, and even if it’s not in the same configuration it left the assembly lines back in 1966, it’s still worth a look if you’re in the market for such a machine.

The Chevelle is, of course, of the high end SS variation. That means it was once at the top of its family table, and used a 396ci (6.5-liter) V8 for a heart, the largest engine available for the model at the time.

As things usually go, that engine was not good enough for one of the previous owners of this Chevelle for some reason. Somewhere in the past, someone took out the 396 and swapped it for a 427 (7.0-liter) of undisclosed power, and linked it to a Muncie M22 Rock Crusher 4-speed transmission.

The engine swap was accompanied by a visual overhaul of the body and interior, both of which now look perhaps better than they did back in the day; Marina Blue paint on the outside, factory bright blue on the inside, and new interior hardware - all combine to make this Chevelle a proposition worth considering.
