To be more precise, a Dodge Challenger Hellcat that had engaged in an uber-serious visit to the gym managed to reset the quarter-mile standards yesterday. To be more precise, the muscle beast completed the 1,320 feet game in an amazing 8.51s, while its trap speed sat at 159 mph.

For the record, the Mopar animal had managed to hit a trap speed of 160 mph in a previous run, also setting a record in this regard.

Oh and let's not forget the 60-foot number, which is equally impressive, sitting at 1.26 seconds. Now, you might wonder what sits behind such jaw-dropping numbers.

Well, the engine compartment of the machine accommodates a home-built motor completed by aficionado Leon Epling, with the HEMI featuring a massive Kenne Bell supercharger (the 4.9-liter blower works at 24 psi of boost). As for the ECU remap keeping everything in check, this comes from Barth Tuning.

As a result of all the work, the V8 of the toy now delivers around 1,400 ponies at the rear wheels, hence the crankshaft output estimation in the title above.

The piece of footage at the bottom of the page showcases the record run, while also allowing us to see the other goodies on the car. We're referring to items like the parachute and the wheelie bar. And, as you'll notice in the clip, the latter is put to good use.

Now, in case you're curious about the quarter-mile performance of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, you should know that four-figure examples of the animal are already out there, even though no unit has managed to deliver an 8s pass yet.
