While Mitsubishi may not have sold that many i-MiEVs around the world (selling only 588 in the US, last year, for instance), around 27,000 examples have been sold since the model debuted, back in 2009. However, not all were sold as Mitsubishis, and some bore the name Peugeot iON, while others were sold as the Citroen C-Zero. There was even a Mitsuoka-branded model, which we recently found out about.
Now, the manufacturers are recalling a total of 14,700 examples, due to a braking problem, which has something to do with a faulty electric brake pump. The recall was not prompted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and it was the automakers themselves that made the decision to recall.

What`s worrying is the fact that the number of recalled vehicles represents around 45% of all the vehicles ever made, so that`s a bit of a dent for Mitsubishi’s good reliability record. All the affected vehicles, 9,000 of which are in Europe, will be brought into the dealerships, and the 30-minute repair job will be done free of charge.
