1 Millionth BMW X5 Rolls Off Spartanburg Assembly Lines

German carmaker BMW announced today it is celebrating the one millionth X5 model produced within eleven years. The vehicle in question is a sapphire black metallic BMW X5 xDrive35i featuring cinnamon brown Nevada leather trim, and is being delivered to a customer in China.

The BMW X5 xDrive35i comes with a six-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo, outputting 306 bhp at 5,800 rpm and 400 Nm at 1,200 – 5,000 rpm.

The car rolled off the assembly line at the American BMW plant in Spartanburg/South Carolina, which has become the most important centre of expertise for BMW X models within the BMW Group’s global production network.

The BMW X5 is now exported to more than 120 countries, with the BMW X6 also being produced there for export to the entire global market. Before the end of this year, production of the latest BMW X3 generation will also start in Spartanburg.

The 2011 X5 comes with an entirely revised range of engines, design modifications and tweaked driver assistance systems. All the models of the new line come with EfficientDynamics and eight-speed automatic transmission as standard. There are four engine choices: BMW X5 xDrive50i, BMW X5 xDrive35i, X5 xDrive40d and X5 xDrive30d.

On the outside, BMW revised the color choice, which now includes Deep Sea Blue, Platinum Grey and Sparkling Bronze. The car received corona rings headlights (the so called angel eyes) with full LEDs, while the rear taillights received an L-shaped LED design.

The new BMW X5 is equipped as standard with iDrive control system with 6.5-inch control display (or 8.8-inch display when ordered in conjunction with the navigation system Professional).
