KTM 990 Adventure (2006-Present) Specs, Performance & Photos

The KTM 990 Adventure was a dual-sport motorcycle manufactured by KTM in Austria from 2006, replacing the KTM 950 Adventure, and produced until 2013, when it was replaced by the KTM 1190 Adventure.

It was powered by a liquid-cooled LC8 DOHC engine that evolved from the 950 Adventure by increasing the bore and stroke. In addition, the engine featured a revised camshaft and a fuel injection system instead of a carburetor.

In 2006, the Austrian motorcycle maker released the KTM 990 Adventure, a revised version of the 959 Adventure model. The regular model was fitted with ABS, unlike the S and R versions, which came without ABS.

Visually, the bike was fitted with features such as a full fairing with a small windscreen, a one-piece dual seat with passenger grab handles, two under-seat-mounted silencers, an engine plate, and lightweight wire-spoke wheels.

As for performance, the 2006 KTM 990 Adventure had its soul brought to life by a 999cc four-stroke liquid-cooled V-twin engine that delivered an output power of 98 hp with a peak force at 8,500 rpm and 96 Nm (71 lb-ft) torque at 6,000 rpm.

Its power was handled by a six-speed manual transmission controlled by a hydraulically controlled wet multi-plate clutch that sent it to the rear end via a final X-Ring chain drive, pushing the motorcycle to 211 kph (131 mph).
