Segment: Sport Touring
Production years: 2003, 2004
Following the successful launch of the Honda Gold Wing in the United States market, Honda decided to launch a lighter, sportier, and more maneuverable machine for the European market.
In 1990, the Japanese maker released the Honda ST1100 Pan European, a sport touring motorcycle part of the ST series, which also included the ST1300, launched later in 2002. The ST1100 retained most of the Gold Wing's characteristic elements, such as the shaft drive, a full fairing, and integral panniers.
After 12 years of production, the ST1100 Pan European was transformed into the ST1300 Pan European in 2002, with a larger engine, more power, torque, and overall performance. The new ST1300 model was designed for long-distance touring, offering strong power and excellent comfort.
In 2004, in addition to the ST1300 Pan European, the Japanese maker released the ST1300A, the same bike but with an additional Anti-lock Braking System, enhancing control and safety over various road conditions.
The 2004 Honda ST1300A Pan European ABS was fitted with a three-position adjustable windscreen, a comfortable dual seat, a rear trunk, and large side panniers for more storage, improving its touring capabilities.
Also, the 2004 ABS machine was powered by a 1,261cc longitudinal-mounted four-cylinder engine that delivered smooth power and precise throttle response, with 118 hp on tap at 8,000 rpm and 117 Nm (86 lb-ft) of torque at 6,500 rpm.
