Segment: Sport Touring
Production years: 2009, 2010
It all began in 1990 when Honda released into the touring world with the ST1100 sport touring motorcycle known as the Pan European in Europe. The ST1100 followed the successful launch of the Gold Wing model and came in a lighter, sportier, and more maneuverable package.
The bike retained most of the Gold Wing's characteristic engineering elements, including a shaft drive, a full fairing, and integral panniers. It also packed a V4 engine instead of the flat-four used on the Gold Wing.
In 2002, the bike was succeeded by the ST1300 machine knowns as the Pan European in Europe. In 2003, the ST1300 was released in the United States and continued production until 2012, replaced by the CTX1300 cruiser motorcycle.
Compared to the ST1100 model, the ST1300 came with numerous upgrades and modifications, such as a larger, more powerful engine, an all-new aluminum frame, a cassette-type five-speed transmission, and a two-element fuel tank.
In 2010, the Japanese maker launched the ST1300A ABS, a robust and reliable touring motorcycle designed for long-distance journeys packed with various accessories that made it popular among touring enthusiasts.
The bike was fitted with an additional Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) to enhance control and safety over different road conditions or hard braking. The ABS prevented the wheels from locking, offering more peace of mind.
The power specifications remained unchanged, with a 1,261cc four-cylinder liquid-cooled engine delivering 118 hp at 8,000 rpm and 117 Nm (86 lb-ft) of torque at 6,500 rpm.
