HONDA ST1100 Pan European (1990-1991) Specs, Performance & Photos

The Honda ST series was a duo of sport-touring motorcycles that included the ST1100, also known as the Pan European and the later ST1300 model. After the success of the Gold Wing model in the United States, Honda decided to launch a lighter, sportier, and more maneuverable machine for the European market.

The Honda ST1100 Pan European was introduced in 1990 and was fitted with a V4 water-cooled inline-mounted engine instead of the flat-four used by the Gold Wing model. In addition, the ST1100 carried most of the Gold Wing's characteristic elements, such as a shaft drive, a full fairing, and integral panniers.

In the European market, the Honda ST1100 Pan European was introduced a year before it was available in the United States. It offered a sportier package with features required by touring riders, filling a niche between the Honda VRF750F sports tourer and the more enormous Gold Wing.

The 1991 Honda ST1100 Pan European packed a 1,085cc V4 inline liquid-cooled engine with the fuel tank placed under the seat for a lower center of gravity, while in the usual location of the fuel tank was an air filter cover.

The bike was manufactured between 1990 and 2002 and optimized for long-distance touring, with good performance and comfort. In addition, a police version named the ST1100P was available for several years.

In the power department, the 1991 Honda ST1100 Pan European was fitted with a 1,085cc inline four-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, delivering an output power of 100 hp at 8,500 rpm and 107 Nm (79 lb-ft) of torque with a peak at 6,000 rpm.
