Earlier this month, a team of hackers managed to take over the electronic brain of the Tesla Model S, gaining control over the luxury electric sedan's door locks, horn, wipers, headlights and sunroof. But now you can do just that with your Android Wear smartwatch, just like the guy in the video below does.
How in the world can you control one of the best and most expensive EVs out there remotely, by simply installing a third-party app available for download on the Google Play store? Well, it's not really rocket science to be frank. Basically, you need to download the 3.1-mb app, install it on your Android Wear smartwatch running at least version 4.1 of the operating system and then start showing off with your Batman-esque contraption.
At the moment, Tesla Command lets you access various commands such as locking or unlocking the doors, honking the horn, as well as opening or closing the sunroof. Yup, it doesn't qualify as MI6 Q Branch-grade material, but still, it's a rather cool thing that even James Bond would like to have on his Aston Martin. But there might be a problem with impressing the ladies with these toys…
First of all, you need to a buy an Android Wear LG G Watch, which has a sticker price of $229. Then you need to drop quite a lot of green dollar bills on a Tesla Model S. The least expensive of them all is the 60 kWh model that costs $69k if you refrain from ticking any of the boxes from the options list. And that's the thing - not many people have the aforementioned two. Even the Tesla Command download page on Google Play tells that 100 to 500 people installed the app on their devices.
