The Variant version of China’s Volkswagen Lavida was teased ahead of the vehicles debut at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show, set to take place in just two days.
Scheduled to hit local dealerships in June, the 2013 Lavida Variant found its way on a couple of giant billboards outside Shanghai’s exhibition hall, in two images that picture the car’s rear quarter and tail lamps.
Built by the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture, the Lavida Variant, which is based on the Chinese-exclusive Lavida sedan, will be powered by a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine with 130 bhp and a 1.6-liter mill with 104 bhp.
Pricing has yet to be revealed, but according to several reports the Lavida Variant should be sold starting from CNY120,000 ($19,400). Rather a hatchback/wagon hybrid, the Lavida Variant is expected to appeal to Chinese customers looking for cheap estates.
