This Is How You Drive a GT-R Offroading-Style During a 230 MPH 1/2-Mile Record Attempt

Owning a racecar will change your life in many ways, with one of the most important benefits being that your weekends will never be the same. Let’s take the driver of what is currently the fastest Nissan GT-R in the world, for instance.
Over the past weekend, the man has experienced both setting a new standing half-mile record for GT-Rs and offroading at the end of a 230 mph pass. Since this kind of record falls rather fast these days, we’ll start with the offroading bit.

The extreme incarnation of Godzilla found itself in Texas, trying to put its 2,276 wheel-horsepower to work. When you work with output numbers such as this one, keeping things in check is no small feat, as you’ll be able to see in the first clip below.

The footage shows the GT-R sliding onto the grass after a 230 mph pass. The driver deployed the parachute trying to stabilize the machine, but things didn’t work out, so he had to manhandle the racecar while playing pinball using the obstacles in the area, with a lake being included on the list.

Fortunately, the man managed to limit the damage and even came back to the starting line without requiring assistance (the bent wheels were on the house).

As we said, this was also an important weekend for the GT-R world, with the Nissan in question managing to climb as high as 235.6 mph (370 km/h).

Sure, this GT-R still isn’t quite as fast as Underground Racing’s twin-turbo Lamborghini Huracan, another hero of the 2015 street car-based drag racing scene. But its achievement remains extremely impressive.

Under the hole-gifted hood of the Nissan, we find the factory 3.8-liter block, which boasts custom internals, and more importantly, a pair of 76-mm turbos. The turbochargers deliver north of 50 lbs of boost, hence the massive power.

You’ll be able to see the GT-R at record-setting work in the second video below.
