Back in college, we’d use energy-efficient driving and share new skills with fellow petrolheads. Sure, we did it since being a student is all about saving money because there’s always something you need it for. Now, they call it hypermiling, and it’s being used to set new range records for EVs, just like these two did with their Tesla Model S P85D.
First of all, a world record is regularly seen that way only after an advised institution says so. Since they haven’t put it into the Guinness of World Records, we can’t quite call it that way. Nevertheless, driving the Tesla Model S P85D for 452.8 miles on a single charge was good enough to get Elon Musk’s attention who retweeted the video. That was more than sufficient for the Tesla fan’s achievement to become mainstream, of course. But is it real?
As we all know, Elon Musk’s EV has an EPA-certified rating of 253 miles per charge which almost half than what the two Tesla owners claim they’ve managed to pull off. The two eco-conscious motorists took turns driving in shifts of several hours, with a total drive of 18 hours and 40 minutes. The journey started and ended at Rodekro, Denmark.
They used hypermiling to make this happen, of course, but that still doesn’t explain the range. Then, there’s another thing to this that looks rather fishy to us, and it refers to what the makers of this video wrote in the description.

Was that the point of the so-called record breaking and more important what do you guys think, is the P85D capable of such range?
