Subaru UK has just announced earlier today that it has achieved its best-ever sales year in 2014, improving on its previous result by 23%. That's interesting, but not as interesting as the cars they plan to launch in 2015.
Because Britain is a right-hand drive market, just like Japan, some of the pretty interesting models can be imported. From fall 2015, the Levorg sport wagon will be available in UK dealerships, a cool sport wagon which we like, but isn't available in North America.
The Levorg is a brand new car, essentially a Legacy with a bigger boot. The best thing about it is that it rides low to the ground, like a regular car, as opposed to the new Outback, which has become a crossover. Details are pretty limited about the UK model, but we know pretty much everything about the Japanese car.
The Levorg is available with a new Subaru four-cylinder boxer engine, a 1.6-liter making 170 PS and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. For those wanting more power, a top-spec Levorg 2.0GT-S should also be available, making 300 PS (211 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. Both have permanent all-wheel drive and offer a choice of manual or Lineartronic CVT gearboxes.
Also coming in 2015 is the Forester Lineartronic diesel in April. The Forester is Subaru's best-selling SUV and the automatic model is expected to boost sales. Those wanting a bit more space can look forward to the 2015 Outback, arriving in showrooms in March.
The rear-wheel drive BRZ SE sports coupe also received a £2,500 price reduction, making it far better value than before, while the XV compact crossover also benefitted from a £2300 price reduction in 2013.
Paul Tunnicliffe, Managing Director, Subaru UK, commented: “These results are encouraging for Subaru UK – it’s great to see model launches and recent price cuts helping us back to sustainable growth. The launch of the new Outback this Spring will put us in an even stronger position for solid growth in future, and the ongoing expansion of our UK dealer network will help us achieve this goal.”
