Peugeot has just revealed a brand new concept car called the QUARTZ ahead of the Paris Motor Show. It stands out through aggressive lines that remind us of the Lamborghini Urus and is designed to be a preview for Peugeot's "SUV of the future".
The Quartz features the same headlight design as the 508 facelift and is clearly also inspired by the stealth fighter lines of the Urus concept. Riding on massive 23-inch wheels, it presents itself as a somewhat short vehicle, 4.5 meters in length, about the same as a VW Tiguan.

However, it's as wide as a sportscar and features massive air intakes up front and a sloping tailgate a la BMW X4. Access to the cabin is made via scissor doors though a pillarless opening.

The French company's normal hatchback and sedan ranges are as clear as daylight. However, the SUVs they make are caught between trying to be minivans and city cars. if the next 4008 looks anything like this, we'll buy it.

Power comes from a hybrid all-wheel drive system which combines the 270 PS engine from an RCZ R sportscar with two electric motors, one for the back and one for the front, both making 115 PS or 85 kW. Combined output is 500 PS and can be tapped in three different ways.

In EV mode, the car runs for up to 50 km (31 miles) using battery juice. In Road mode, the front motor and the engine work together in FWD unison, while in Race, the Peugeot gives it everything she's got.

A Peugeot SUV with race mode? That's kind of special, and so is the interior, which once again reminds us of the Urus. Four sculpted bucket seats hug a large central tunnel to give a sporty feel to the cabin. The dash is driver-oriented and features a large touchscreen and a red button to start the engine. The squared off steering wheel is backed by red shifter paddles ad a digital speedometer borrowed from sci-fi movies.

“With the EXALT and QUARTZ Concepts, the Brand is showcasing its vision of the high-end automotive market. PEUGEOT is committed to developing exclusive concepts for its customers through outstanding design, innovative materials and unparalleled sensations,” said Maxime Picat, PEUGEOT Brand Chief Executive Officer.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
