Almost two years ago, Lamborghini revealed a sharp-looking sports SUV concept at the Beijing Auto Show. It was called the Urus and it caught everybody's attention.
The days turned into months and it looked like it was never getting the green light for production. With every interview he gave, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said that he'd very much like the Urus in production, but VW bosses weren't green-lighting the project. That was until finally, it was approved late last year.
To sooth the tempers of thousands of rich people from Dubai who want to buy it, Winkelmann gave another interview yesterday, saying that the Urus is still on.
Three years separate us from its debut in 2017. By that time, it will have to face off competition from Bentley, Maseati to some extent and even Rolls-Royce. He also spoke out about the current supercar market conditions. Sales in North America will be on the rise in 2014, but Europe will continue to be flat or slightly down.
However, the Urus is sure to bolster these numbers significantly. Back in 2012, Winkelmann said demand could be as high as 3,000 units per year. That would easily make this the best selling Lambo model ever.
The Rambo Lambo looks like a sure thing, offroad capacity or not. Rumor has it the Urus will fetch in excess of $200,000 (€155,000).Power will either come from the new Audi twin-turbo V8 or Lambo's own V10.
