With all of the Chinese car brands out there, we'd have thought there was no room left for any European models there. But it seems an unlikely Opel model will be making its Chinese market debut soon.
The Opel Meriva has been spotted testing in China ahead of its likely debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November.
According to carnewschina.com, the MPV will be imported into the country and sold exclusively with a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 138bhp (140 PS). Prices should start at CNY200,000 or about €25,000 at the current exchange rates.
The second generation of this compact MPV was officially introduced at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show. As compared to its predecessor, the Meriva B featured rear-hinged doors at the back, called 'FlexDoors'. This was actually the first and foremost change that happened at the exterior. Technologically speaking, the novelty of Meriva B was that this represented their first model fitted with a stop-start system, for improved fuel economy and a lower level of CO2 emissions. Production for this model started in June 2010.
