Nissan has sold the 75,000th Leaf electric car this month, the Japanese automaker revealed at the Nissan 360 event in California. The announcement comes exactly six months after Nissan celebrated delivery of its 50,000th Leaf model.
While 75,000 units mean nothing if the car in question wears a Toyota Corolla or Ford Focus badge, this figure actually means a lot for a vehicle like the Nissan Leaf, which was launched less than three years ago and was still struggling against the Chevrolet Volt in 2012.
It’s hard to predict whether or not the Leaf will reach the 100,000 unit mark by the end of the year, but sales are expected to grow in the United States, as the company is getting ready to add 100 fast charging stations at well placed dealerships across the nation.
What’s more, the Japanese car manufacturer also announced plans to offer battery upgrades for the early Leaf EVs sold in the United States.
