Honda presented at the 2011 North American International Auto Show the new Civic, a model that comes with a refined look plus with several enhancements, both inside and outside. But another important aspect of the revised Civic lineup is the fact that it will be offered with a natural gas option in all 50 states across the US, starting this year. A similar configuration is also available on the current generation, with sales going around 1,500 units each year, according to MSNBC.
The concept presented by the Japanese manufacturer at the Detroit event is believed to give us a glimpse into how the new Civic lineup, due to be released in a few months as model year 2012, will look like. The Civic range will include some new members, as follows: a sedan and a coupe with conventional gasoline models, two sporty "Si" performance versions, along with one hybrid and the natural gas alternative-fuel variant we were talking about.
Not much is known about the powerplants to be fitted under the hoods of the new Civic, but one thing is for sure: each of the mills used by the carmaker will be much more efficient and will feature the company's Eco Assist technology already offered on the CR-Z and Insight hybrids.
"The Civic is known for providing a balance of 'just-right' packaging, fun-to-drive character and outstanding fuel economy, at a price that even first-time buyers can afford. The redesigned Civic builds on this legacy and promises to be the best Civic yet," stated John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda, when the company unveiled the new Civics at the 2011 NAIAS.
