New Honda Civic Prepared for 2011 NAIAS

The 2011 North American International Auto Show is the right place to display the latest models, not only because it takes place in one of the largest car markets in the world, but also because all eyes are set on the venue. Japanese carmaker Honda will thus use the 2011 NAIAS to preview its new Civic small car, so a concept will most likely be displayed at the company's booth in Detroit.

According to USA Today, the production model is projected to be presented sometimes in 2011, probably during the spring, but only minor details are available at this point.

Technical specifications we received earlier this year claimed that the new Civic will most likely use four-cylinder petrol and turbodiesel units, with power outputs ranging between 80 and 140 hp. The current 1.3l i-VTEC hybrid engine is expected to be featured in the new model as well, possibly with a few changes.

Not many extensive modifications will make it to the production model, but the new Civic is expected to be a bit smaller and lighter than the current model. And this can only be good news for those who are hoping to see a more fuel efficient environmentally-friendly Civic, especially because cutting weight and improving existing engines are basically the two main ways to work on efficiency.

autoevolution will be attending the 2011 NAIAS, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
