With a slew of sexy cars equipped with everything from LEDs to electronically folding mirrors and leather interiors, the Kia brand would be unrecognizable for the people who bought a crummy Rio a decade ago.
Describing themselves as a 90% European brand, the next logical step would be going after the legendary GTIs, RSs and STs that make the covers of car magazines every year. Kia already has one such model, the pro_cee'd GT which was recently launched in Britain.
With 204 PS (201 bhp) on tap from a 1.6-liter turbo engine, the sporty 3-door could prove quite successful. And if it does, more such cars could be on the way. During the launch event of the aforementioned model, a Kia insider told Auto Express more GTs will come if this one is successful.
"If everything goes well and it's received warmly then we could spread the GT badge, and maybe see a GT version of the Rio as well," the insider told.
The only problem here is this report indices that they are actually waiting to see if the 5-door cee'd GT is successful when it launches in 2014. By that time, the Rio will be at least 3 years old. Maybe we can convince the Korean company's officials to take a leap of faith instead: Pretty please with double-clutch on top!
