Rumor has it that Jeep’s brand new small crossover, which will be based on Fiat’s 500/Panda platform, will be unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show with a Jeepster nameplate.
According to Drive, who is quoting “a dealer who has seen the car”, the new crossover will call on the heritage of the Willys-Overland Jeepster that was built between 1948 and 1950 in Toledo, Ohio. The vehicle will be sold in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive and a range of gasoline and diesel engines.
There’s no word on what mills may be found under the Jeepster’s hood, but expect Chrysler to source the engines from te Fiat 500L, including the 0.9-liter TwinAir, the 1.4-liter MultiAir and the 1.6-liter MultiJet diesel.
The Jeepster will be built alongside its Fiat 500X twin in Italy, but production could be expanded to Poland and Mexico in the future.
