The 2015 Mustang will go on sale with an array of updates compared to the current pony, but, most importantly, it will become the very first Mustang to feature an independent rear suspension.
Ford’s decision to ditch the live rear axle spawned mixed reactions among enthusiasts. Most of them acknowledged that the Mustang needed an IRS, while some, mostly those closer to the drag racing scene, were rather disappointed.

But we have some good news for the latter. Ford Racing will be introducing a new body-in-white program that will feature a 9-inch solid rear axle. The information comes from a Ford Racing employee, who broke the news at the Performance Racing Industry Show in Indianapolis last week.

According to Gas2, the live axle body-in-white 2015 Mustang, which is intended to attract “serious racers to the platform” will be introduced at next year’s PRI Show. Once the race car is launched, the live rear axle could become available as a separate part through Ford Racing, which means that the 9-inch setup could be used to convert road-going 2015 Mustangs.

The solid rear axle should be used in the 2015 Mustang Cobra Jet as well, which pretty much dismisses the the rumor that said Ford might use a different platform for the new Cobra Jet.
