Set your phone reminders for the day of March 24th, because that's when Jaguar fans will receive a sweet treat from the company, the brand new 2016 XF is going to be revealed and promises to be a huge step in the right direction.
The reveal promises to be just as exciting as the one for the XE and Discovery Sport last year. Jaguar has teamed up with stuntman Jim Dowdall, who worked on James Bond and Indiana Jones movies, to pull off a "dramatic high-wire water crossing".
That's all well and good, but what do we know about the car? Well, it should use the new iQ[Al] aluminum platform, so it should be just as light as its German rivals, if not more so. The company has promised that one of the models available will get you 70 miles per gallon (58.2 mpg US / 4.0L/100km), though that doesn't really impress us.
Full technical details won't be available until the New York Auto Show in April, but we can speculate that the latest 2.0-liter four-cylinder Ingenium engines and a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 will be offered. There should also be a mighty XFR model with the supercharged 5.0-liter V8, though testing hasn't really started yet.
As far as the design is concerned, we need only look at the F-Pace concept (C-X17) and XE saloon to get a clear picture. For your swiping/browsing delight, we have plenty of spy photos to check out in the gallery below.
As we ponder the future of the Jaguar saloon, we leave you with the words of Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar: "I believe the all-new XF will be the best looking car in its class. Elegant, handsome and with proportions that imbue a great sense of integrity - the all-new XF will be true to the strong tradition of sporting Jaguar saloons while being completely of its time."
