Jaguar's sales may hinge on the success of its Ingenium 4-cylinder engines, but the company's heart is still with the larger supercharged V6 and V8 mills which define them. That's why the first crossover built by the Leaper brand will also have a 'charged vee-6 like the on in the F-Type.
Spy photographers in Britain have recently caught this prototype near Gaydon. It's clearly a performance model, which we expect to be called F-Pace S and be powered by a 340 hp 3-liter V6. Other changes include a more pronounced boot spoiler, double exhaust pipes and red brake calipers.
The design, already previewed by the CX-17 concept car of 2013, will be the typical Jaguar affair, with a large oval grille, strong lines and headlights similar to the XJ. Unlike its sister model from Land Rover, the new Discovery Sport, a clear emphasis will be placed on driving dynamics instead of offroad capabilities, which is actually what most customers want anyway.
The model will occupy the same segment as the BMW X3, Mercedes GLC and Audi Q5. This supercharged performance model will compete directly with the SQ5, which also has a 3-liter 'charged engine, and an anticipated AMG Sport version of the GLA that's likely to get 367 hp from a twin-turbo V6.
"Staccato in character, always edgy, always exciting." - that's how Jaguar described this engine
We've already experienced a 380 hp version on the F-Type Roadster and loved every moment of it. And even though the F-Pace crossover may be considered by some as a sacrilege, this performance version will likely still be faster than any classical E-Type ever built. Expect 0 to 60 mph to go by in just 5 seconds. The design, already previewed by the CX-17 concept car of 2013, will be the typical Jaguar affair, with a large oval grille, strong lines and headlights similar to the XJ.
