The Rolls-Royce customer is discerning, well-mannered and well-dressed man sitting at the corner table with a glass of Martell. Sadly, nowadays the likes of 50 Pence or Diddly Puff ride in the back of Rollers and the clientele has changed.
For the same reason (declining quality of the clientele), apparently Rolls will be scrapping its plans for an electric car within the near future. It was the lack of interest from the clientele, who are now extremely rich and wouldn’t give a toot or a hoot about the environment.
The electric Roller was promising and since most of them take their uber-wealthy passenger on short journeys in town, the electric powertrain would have made perfect sense. The 102EX concept’s almost 200km (120-mile) range when driven carefully and its limited top speed of 160km/h (99mph) were also adequate for city driving in complete silence and comfort.
Rolls-Royce need to move forward along with the times and make a bespoke luxury electric car. If someone can make luxury cars, it’s them and they can surely find some parts bin to rummage around for a proper electric powertrain - we hear BMW is doing quite well with its electric program.
