First used on the new Peugeot 208, the 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, called VTi82, will now be used on both the Citroen C3, as well as its sportier two-door brother, the DS3.

As its name suggests, the engine puts out a rather weedy 82 hp and 118 Nm (87 lb-ft), however, its main selling point will be the excellent economy and emissions figures, which are 25% lower than any other petrol engine in the range.

We feel, however, that the engine is better-suited for use in the C3, as it goes against what the DS3 stands for, as it embodies style and sportiness like few other city cars can (being better at one than the other, though), and it should have only been offered with 100+ hp engine variants.

Pricing-wise, a Citroen C3 VTi82 will set you back around €14,800, while a DS3 equipped with the same engine will cost €15,290 in its most basic of trim levels.
