A new report published the other day on various websites claims that there’s a new bit of info available about the upcoming BMW M2. However, few people actually know that this is old info that may as well be false as far as we are aware. We’re talking about the pricing the new BMW M2 is supposed to have and, according to the aforementioned websites, there’s ‘new’ info coming in from Germany, claiming that the car will cost around €54,000. What they seemingly don’t know is that the same info was published in Auto Bild’s issue number 15 that came out in April 2015. Back then, they were making some pretty audacious claims that turned out to be false. For example, they claimed that the power output of the N55 mill will be around 385 HP, which, according to our source (and every other source out there by the way) is not right. The car will have around 370 HP and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. The same issue claimed that the unveiling will take place in Detroit next year but that turned out to be false too as the car will be introduced in August for the first time as a concept and in September as the production version, at Frankfurt.
There was one thing they got right, however, and that was the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time that they estimated at between 4.3 and 4.5 seconds, depending on the transmission. That’s pretty accurate.

Don’t get us wrong, the €54,000 price tag does make sense and it would be good news for all of us, but it does feel like it’s just too low. Considering that the M4 is priced at €74,000 which is €20,000 more and the performance difference between the two, the cut is too much.

The US market might receive it at roughly $54,000 considering that the M4 costs $64,000 on the other side of the pond and that the M235i starts at $44,900 it does make sense. On the other hand, in Germany, we’re expecting a price tag closer to €60,000 which wouldn’t be a bad deal anyway.

For that money you’d be getting a Coupe with 370 HP, 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque, a DCT transmission and limited slip differential good for an acceleration of 4.4 seconds to 100 km/h (62 mph) and incredible track performance. It sounds good to our ears.
