Just this weekend we showed you the M2 being tested at high altitude somewhere in the French Alps. It was a good chance to hear its new 3-liter inline 6-cylinder engine but also to compare it to the M235i which is what the drivers were seemingly doing.
This time, we’re back with yet another video of the car, this time being raced on the Nurburgring. Unfortunately, someone must’ve meddled with the exhaust because it’s definitely too quite for a car like that. It’s either that or we’ll be terribly disappointed once this thing comes out.

The noise, as quiet as it may be, comes from a variation of the N55 3-liter inline 6-cylinder unit that made history for BMW. As it is heading out of production, being replaced by a new B58 mill, this is only befitting as a swan song for it, being pushed to the limit on the M2.

Sources inside Munich claim that the power output will be close to 370 HP while torque will be somewhere around the 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) mark. The figures aren’t all that incredible, but we’re guessing they were kept in check for a couple of reasons, the biggest one being to try and avoid stepping on the M4’s toes.

That being said, the M2 was kept tame for a serious reason. It needs to be, at most, as heavy as the M4 and therefore it won’t be using and carbon fiber in its construction. The engine was also kept a bit on the down side for the same reason.

According to our latest spyshots, the car will seemingly be available with the 7-speed DCT gearbox while the manual is still a mystery. We’re still hoping it will be available.

The F87 M2 will be launched this fall and will enter production in November, after its world debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Prices should be somewhere between the M235i and M4, which leaves a lot of room to play with.
