While the first Renault Modus-based Note debuted in 2004, until now, it has failed to attract the number of buyers Nissan first envisioned for it. Its rivals, the Modus, Opel/Vauxhall Meriva (with its clever rear-hinged rear doors) as well as the Citroen C3 Pigasso were preferred, at least by European buyers.
Now, though, the Japanese manufacturer is back with a much sharper-looking Note, which ditches the boxy shape in favour of a Leaf-esque front fascia, an excellent crease along the side (looks quite good, shame for those who will have to repair it after a crash as it seems very tricky to get right). It also seems to have excellent air flow over the body, which equates to lower drag and lower fuel consumption and emissions figures. Inside, the layout lacks imagination, except for the dials which look quite good, but people buying this car will be more interested in practicality and if the old Note is anything to go by, then this new one should be even better.
The version in the video is the Japanese market car and the Euro-spec may differ slightly, but what is shown in the video is pretty much what we’ll get. The JDM-spec engines, which are connected to a CVT gearbox of the latest generation will probably not make it to other markets, like Europe, where Renault’s 1.5-liter dCI will be preferred. However, its main problem in Europe (and other markets, as well) will be the much cheaper and bigger Dacia Lodgy which reports indicate is an excellent machine (and much cheaper).
