Alfa Romeo UK has just announced their new 4-cylinder pocket rocket will retail this October from GBP45,000 on the road.
With the first deliveries expected to take place in early 2014, we still have plenty of time to decide if it's worth the money. A quick check with their biggest rival reveals Porsche will bring a brand new Cayman to your doorstep fro just GBP39,694. However the bigger Cayman S is more expensive than the 4C at GBP48,783. However, if you want a double-clutch gearbox, Porsche will charge you extra, about GBP2,000.
On paper, even the less powerful Cayman has 275 PS, compared to the Alfa's tiny 1750 Turbo's 240 PS.
But the 4C only weighs 895 kilograms and can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.5 seconds, compared to a Cayman's time of 5.6 seconds with PDK. In addition, the 4C is very efficient, averaging 41.5mpg on the combined UK cycle, equivalent to 157 g/km of CO2.
So actually, the 4C isn't that expensive and should be a good buy for people coming from bigger, more expensive sportscar.
