Ah, the joys of building a project car - the sheer idea of getting to put together your dream contraption is enough to make an aficionado weak in the knees. However, any such initiative also comes with plenty of risks, such as the possibility of ruining an otherwise fine factory car.
We're bringing you the freshest example of such a sad story, one that involves a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Now that the Evo has been put to sleep, any example of the Japanese all-wheel-drive hero is important for the car world, but when we're talking about an Evo 9 such as the one we have here, the Mitsu's value should be even higher.

Than's because the ninth installment of the rally-bred four-wheeled franchise was was many consider the last "pure" Evo - with the Evolution X did pack its fair share of improvements, aspects like its shared platform and its hefty scale footprint meant it never quite appealed to purists in the same manner as the car it replaced.

Returning to the example we're discussing here, its owner apparently decided to turn it into a track car upon also getting an Evo X. The cabin was stripped, the luggage compartment lid was replaced with a carbon fiber-look piece and the wheels were removed.

Nevertheless, the owner never followed through, throwing a car cover over the Mitsubishi and leaving it at his mother's house for seven years, hence the quotes in the title above.

Car collector Rob Ferretti, who is a friend of the Evo's owner, has now decided to take action, visiting the neglected machine and gifting us with the piece of footage at the bottom of the page.

Now, before anybody jumps to let's-save-this-Evo conclusions, you should consider the kind of investment required to bring such a vehicle back to life.

We should also mention that, despite the Evo having a no-crash status, the car has been in a flood. Even so, since, according to Rob, the thing was fully functional before being taken down the negligence path, perhaps there's still hope for it.
