2016 SEAT Leon FR Facelift Gets Accurately Rendered, Thanks to Leaked Bumper

A couple of weeks ago, somebody in Spain let slip what the new front bumper of the SEAT Leon will look like. It's something that doesn't matter to that many people, since the Leon is not sold in globally. But we were curious what the rendering specialists are able to do.

French website Virtual Car has answered the call with a rendering of the 2016/2017 model year Leon SC FR. It's a complicated name, we know, so just to make things clear, FR is the sports look pack, like the R-Line from Volkswagen, while SC stands for Sport Coupe, this being a 3-door car.

Any petrolhead should be proud to own a Leon FR. While it's not the most practical thing in the world, it's light, thanks to the MQB platform. Just to give you an example, this car with a 1.4 TSI and a manual weighs 1,223 kilograms (2696 lbs), which is a lot less than the brand new Renault Megane GT.

Speaking of the 1.4 TSI, this engine has had its work cut out. When the Leon was launched, you got a Euro 5 (if we remember correctly) version with either 122 or 140 PS. That got upgraded to 125 and 150 PS a few years ago.

With the facelift, we hope SEAT will offer us something even better, like the 1.5 TSI that Volkswagen has just unveiled. The horsepower output is the same, but it's got a variable geometry turbocharger, which is like meeting a Swedish blonde with D cups at the supermarket. This kind of technology just happen on a regular hathchback!

The only other thing we want changed when the facelift arrives is the suspension. Right now, you can only have independent rear suspension with engines producing 180 horsepower or more in some markets. That's just stupid, considering the old Leon was set up this way as standard.

As you may have noticed, we haven't talked that much about the design. That's because not that much is changing, which is typical for both SEAT and the entire Volkswagen Group. The Leon facelift will kind of look like a hatchback version of the new Ateca SUV. Ateca, that's a name that we'll never get used to. Why couldn't they call it the Leopard or the Cheetah?!
