And we’ve already picked our favorite: it’s the Elan. The vehicle is a two-seater that also comes with an optional 2+2 configuration. The car tips the scales at 1,295 kg, which makes is pretty light (not by the classic Lotus standards however).
The vehicle uses a 4.0 liter V6 engine that delivers 450 hp and 465 Nm of torque. The unit is mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and sends its power to the rear wheels. The car is able to deal with the 0 to 62 mph sprint in 3.5 seconds and offers a top speed of 192.5 mph (310 km/h). Lotus also allows customers to choose a hybrid option for the powertain. This offers CO2 emissions of just 199 grams per km.
The Elan will be one of the top soldiers in Lotus’ battle for conquering the supercar world. The vehicle will enter production in summer 2013 and hot the market a few months after that.
"If there was ever a car to make you drive the long way home, it’s the Elan. Perfect for both road and track, the Elan not only ticks all the boxes, it creates new ones too,” said Dany Bahar, Chief Executive Officer of Group Lotus.
“The Elan will convert people to Lotus, I would challenge people not to become addicted to driving it. It will also go a long way towards dispelling the old misconceptions about this class, that in order to have high performance you must sacrifice usability – those days are gone,” the executive added.
