Volkswagen is preparing a city car that can also deal with a farm track. It’s the Cross Up!, previewed as a concept back in 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show and now undergoing testing in Sweden, where our spy photographers caught it up close.
Volkswagen has already made it official they are putting this car into production, so it’s not surprising at all that no efforts have been made to camouflage it. In fast, the only major difference between this car and the concept is that “cross up!” is written on this prototype’s plastic molding.

Speaking of molding, you might as well call this a full production prototype, because the only difference between this and the standard Up! is a bit of black protective plastic. The headlight are blacked out and the suspension raised, but other than that, it’s pretty much the same.

Power will come from a 1-liter three-cylinder engine delivering either 60 PS in the base model or 75 PS in the upmarket one.
