Zero-Emission Alliance Goes to Vancouver

Another step was made this week towards the introduction of the Leaf EV by the Renault-Nissan Zero Emission alliance, as another agreement was signed with the Province of British Columbia, the City of Vancouver and BC Hydro. The region will thus be the starting point for program in Canada.

"Agreements like this one with the Renault-Nissan Alliance are an important step in making climate-friendly transportation a lifestyle choice for all British Columbians," Blair Lekstrom, the region's ministry for Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources said when announcing the partnership.

"Moving towards a zero-emission mobility program gets Vancouver closer to our goal of becoming the world's greenest city," Gregor Robertson, Vancouver mayor said.

Of course, one of the main goals of the partnership is to create the charging infrastructure required by electric vehicles. Nissan's recently revealed Leaf is expected to be the first mass-produced beneficiary of the charging network.

"Today is an exciting day for Nissan Canada as we announce an important step in making electric vehicles a reality in the Canadian market," Mark Grimm, Nissan Canada president added. "We have the technology for zero-emission mobility without compromise and working with important partners like those signing this agreement is a critical step in this evolution."

The Canadian agreement will allow Nissan and Renault to apply for the federal government's Clean Energy Fund, which supports a charging infrastructure pilot program in the region. This latest agreement marks the 30th such initiative signed by the partnership with governments and cities around the world.
