Wondering How Much Faster Is the P100D Over the P90D? Wonder No More

The new Tesla P100D is out and so everybody who's been drag racing their P90Ds until now is going to be very curious to know just how much faster Tesla managed to make its latest Model S version.
But even more curious than the P90D owners are going to be the drivers of conventionally-powered cars who come up against these vehicles. Investing plenty of money and time in tuning an American muscle car or a Japanese import only to get demolished on the quarter-mile drag strip by a stock electric car doesn't bode well for those on the losing side.

This time, however, it's going to be an all-electric duel. The father and son from Tesla Racing Channel have finally gotten around to taking their newest acquisition, the Model S P100D, to a drag track along with their previous ICE tormenter, the P90D. Four passes, four chances to see the difference between Tesla's former and current Model S range-topping versions.

Sadly, this isn't a quarter-mile track, but an eight-mile one. That means the distance these two cars have to cover is only twice as long as that on which Usain Bolt likes to sprint. But the two promise a quarter-mile race is coming soon, so stay tuned. Anyway, in the meantime you can treat yourself to a P100D going against a Lamborghini Huracan or a Nissan GT-R - both four-wheel-drive cars that are famous for their off the line acceleration.

But despite the shorter distance and the less than ideal conditions, what these people are doing is still very important, and you know why? It's because of the kids - just like the one at 3:28 - who are watching. They are young enough not to be intoxicated by any particular propulsion system (well, not figuratively, at least) like we are, so when they grow up, they'll remember those sick electric vehicles they saw at the drag strip and will want to buy one for themselves.

Not only that, but they'll also tell their friends in school about a silent car that obliterated anything on the quarter-mile drag strip, and they too will become interested. And before you know it, there's a whole new generation of young people who not only do they not have anything against battery-powered cars, but they actually embrace them.
