Woman Pleads For The Return of Her Dead Mother’s Stolen Honda CR-V

She’s going public with her story in the hope that the 4 thieves who took it will be touched by it and return the SUV they took from her garage. Kimberly Beckett tells NBC affiliate Lex18 that she knows she was wrong to leave the car unlocked, but she still has hopes whoever took it will bring it back.

The car, a 2015 white Honda CR-V Touring Edition, belonged to Beckett’s late mother and she says it’s the only thing she still has that strongly reminds her of her. It was parked inside the garage of the family home, but it wasn’t locked. Beckett also left her purse inside the car, and thieves took that too.

“We woke up the morning of Thanksgiving and my dad went to go wash the vehicle and realized it was gone, out of the garage,” she says for the media outlet.

The 4 thieves were caught on surveillance camera but they made sure you couldn’t see their faces. They opened the garage door by going through Beckett’s father’s car, which was also unlocked and parked in the street.

Beckett has learned her lesson and will probably never again leave her vehicle unlocked, no matter how safe she thinks it is. Still, she hopes the car will be brought back to her.

“Definitely take your keys, take your purse inside,” she says. “Take all the security measures. Go through all the what if scenarios because they can happen.”

Lexington Police urge car owners to follow the “9 p.m. routine” to prevent situations like this: before going to bed, turn your porch lights on, take your valuables out of your car and lock all doors, including those on the vehicle.
