This might not be the most romantic proposal of all time, but it surely wins lots of points for the surprise element: one man from Miami staged a fake traffic stop to get down on bended knee for his girlfriend.
It all went down in the Miami a few days ago, with help from the Miami Police Department, as a video posted to the official Twitter account proves. Kenneth, the dude in question, came into the station and asked for help from one of the officers, telling him he wanted to surprise his girlfriend with a proposal.
The officer agreed and asked his partner to help out. Together, they faked a traffic stop, which allowed Kenneth the chance to get down on one knee and present his girlfriend with a ring. You can see it play out in the video available at the bottom of the page.
“THE PROPOSAL: Kenneth walked into MBPD this evening and asked Officer O’Neal if we could help him propose to his girlfriend. Officer O’Neal called Sergeant Motola who said absolutely! The rest is in the video!” the caption in the video reads.
One of the tags used is #CommunityPolicing, which should send the message that cops are also in the line of doing good deeds like this one, which don’t involve fighting any crime.
Whether pulling someone over for no reason may or may not be entirely legal, one thing is clear: the woman didn’t see the proposal coming. In fact, she’s so surprised by it that she keeps talking about how surprised she is while poor Kenneth is still on his knee, with the ring in his outstretched hand.
It takes the woman a few seconds to realize that, usually, in this type of situations, you’re supposed to answer the question first, and then to gush about how surprising it was. And since we’re on the topic, major spoiler: she said yes.
