Why Overtaking on the Wrong Side is Very Dangerous

We have said it before and we’ll say it again: overtaking needs to be done with extreme care, even when it takes place on a highway. For example, in countries where people drive on the right side of the road, other vehicles should always be overtaken on the left side, never on the right.
This is especially true when you’re overtaking a large truck which is very heavy and cumbersome and you cannot be seen properly from it. This Russian driver proves the theory right, because as he is improperly overtaking the 18-wheeler on the right, the truck changes lanes, not expecting a car to be there and then grinds the car against the guard rail, before stopping on the side of the road.

This accident could have easily been avoided if the driver in the car with the dashcam would have been more patient and taken an extra few seconds to wait for the truck to complete its overtaking maneuver which takes quite a bit longer than it does for regular cars. This time, the fault is also with the truck driver who could have easily looked in his right mirror and he would have seen the car - but he didn’t!
