The answer to the question posed above is the Lanzador's production version. Revealed as a concept in August 2023 and coming to a dealer near you in 2028, the Italian automaker's first EV will face stiff competition from both Tesla and legacy automakers that are currently pivoting to electric vehicles.
On the other hand, the Lanzador won't face that stiff of a competition because nobody would cross-shop a Tesla Model X Plaid or a BMW iX M60 against a Lamborghini Lanzador. Think Porsche 911 versus Mazda MX-5, McLaren 750S versus Corvette Stingray, and Rolls-Royce Spectre versus the equivalent i7 from BMW.
Spotted by carparazzi Varryx while leaving the Lamborghini factory in Sant'Agata Bolognese, the Plaid and M60 are the most performance-oriented versions of the Model X and iX. Two big differences need to be highlighted, beginning with three-row seating for the family-sized crossover from Tesla. Regarding the other difference, that would be a grand total of three motors for the Plaid versus a dual-motor setup for the most exciting iX in production today.
Pictured with German rather than Italian plates, the M60 carries a sticker price of 137,400 euros in the Italian Republic. By comparison, the Plaid carries a starting price of 118,978 euros. Over in the United States, the MSRPs are $111,500 and $94,990.
Advertised with 610 horsepower at full chatter, 3.6 seconds to 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour), an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 kph), and 296 miles (476 kilometers) of driving range on a full charge of the high-voltage battery, the iX M60 plays second fiddle to the Model X Plaid.

Think 2.5 seconds, 163 miles per hour (262 kilometers per hour), and 311 miles (501 kilometers) with the largest wheels available from the factory. The standard 20s offer 333 miles (536 kilometers). Lamborghini didn't offer a driving range estimate for the Lanzador, but chief technical officer Rouven Mohr did promise long range, whatever that means in the context of an EV from an exotic manufacturer.
The concept's most important numbers are one megawatt of power, which is 1,341 mechanical ponies or 1,360 in the metric system, two electric motors, three doors (including the hatchback), and four seats. Half grand tourer and half sport utility vehicle, said concept boasts a weird yet interesting mix of Huracan and Urus design cues. There is a bit of Revuelto in there as well, and who could forget the V10-powered Estoque design study from 2008?
Instead of the Volkswagen Group's Premium Platform Electric, the Lanzador is believed to feature SSP underpinnings. The Scalable Systems Platform aims to replace both the MEB platform for mass-market applications and the aforementioned PPE. Volkswagen's much-anticipated SSP is due in 2026 with 800-volt tech, support for multiple battery chemistries, and up to 1,700-odd horsepower instead of the originally advertised 1,100 horsepower.
The Lanzador will be joined by the second-generation Urus in 2029. As opposed to the current Urus, the second gen has been confirmed to pack zero-emission muscle only. In the meantime, the first-gen Urus will switch to a plug-in hybrid twin-turbo V8 sometime in 2024 for model year 2025.
