There's a big battle raging on between General Motors and Ford as both Detroit automakers claim they are the holders of the best-selling full-size truck title across the US automotive market.
General Motors was the incontestable leader in 2023 with deliveries of almost 2.6 million vehicles against Toyota's 2.24 million and Ford's nearly 2 million performance. A significant factor in the equation was played by Chevrolet, of course – especially its big truck and SUV series. If the Tahoe and Suburban again took the laurels without any controversy, the field of full-size pickup trucks would be a bit murkier.
More precisely, Ford continues to hold the crown with its F-Series for a single nameplate as the F-150, Lightning, and Super Duty are all bundled under the same roof. Meanwhile, GM claims it's the overall king – but only when they add the Silverado and HD with the GMC Sierra and HD, which are separate models from different brands. So, maybe Chevrolet just needs another Silverado sibling to level up the playing field?
Well, as always, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators is here to the rescue – and one solution, even if only virtually, would be to resurrect the beloved Chevrolet Avalanche nameplate. The original was produced from 2001 to 2013 as a four-door pickup truck with space for five or six persons designed as a mid-step between the big Chevy Suburban SUV and the Silverado pickup truck. Unlike the latter, this was atypical of the body-on-frame construction and had a mid-gate feature where the second row of seats could fold down and create a larger storage area that communicated with the bed space.
Atypical of GM's regular siblings, the Chevy Avalanche did not have a GMC counterpart but rather a re-badged Cadillac brother. The mid-gate solution was also adapted to the GMC Envoy XUV and Hummer H2 SUT. Now, there is a virtual artist, better known as c_zr1 on social media, who gives us CGI food for thought in the form of a Chevy Avalanche revival based on the GMC Hummer EV. Oddly enough, we think the latter is only a template, not necessarily a chassis and powertrain donor.
Instead, the pixel master strived to revive the famous Avalanche for a hypothetical third generation that would again attempt to "combine the beauty and spaciousness of the Tahoe/Suburban with the capabilities and practicality of the Silverado" pickup truck. The result is basically a 2025 Tahoe or Suburban SUV that inhabits the pickup truck body of the GMC Hummer EV and looks stylish about it – especially in the luxurious exterior and interior colors provided by the author.
As for the powertrain choice, it's anyone's guess since this is merely wishful thinking. However, it would probably look good both with Suburban's newly updated Duramax turbodiesel and Silverado EV's RST setup, right?
