General Motors retained the overall sales crown of the US automotive market last year with almost 2.6 million vehicle deliveries. However, the competition wasn't too far behind them.
Toyota issued a barrage of introductions last year, but it hasn't released all of them into the wild – as such, they only managed to reach a little over 2.24 million units in 2023. Ford came close, too, despite having just one passenger car nameplate in the North American family – the S650 seventh-generation Mustang.

What will happen this year is anyone's guess, but GM might need some additional reinforcements – especially for its most popular Chevrolet brand, which is slowly creeping above Buick and making the latter the default affordable brand from General Motors. But how will Chevrolet approach the near-premium status with models like the $25k Malibu mid-size sedan?

For sure, their crossover and SUV roster is well established as many novelties are available – from the $20k Trax to the all-new Traverse and refreshed 2025 Tahoe and Suburban. Instead, it's the passenger car field that is in need of some additional novelties because the Camaro has ceased production, and there's a huge gap between the Malibu and the $68k C8 Corvette Stingray – let alone the E-Ray and Z06, which are both over $100k.

No worries, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators always has a solution for any OEM predicament. For example, some rumor mill outlets and their resident pixel masters believe that it's time for the upcoming tenth-generation Malibu to offer not just a four-door sedan but also a two-door coupe option. Alternatively, there's also the surprising choice of bringing back the fabled Chevelle nameplate for another stint across the muscle car realm.

However, the good folks from the AutomagzPro channel on YouTube have some different AI-assisted CGI thoughts. Instead, they dream about an all-new reborn Chevrolet Impala full-size sedan flagship – again, as this time it's supposedly coming with hybrid oomph under the hood. That's a bit odd considering that GM is focusing on fully electric stuff rather than hybrid or PHEV goodies like Toyota, for example, right?

On the other hand, the unofficial design makes the Impala fully capable of taking its rightful place as the (very muscular) flagship full-size sedan. Basically, this styling is both reminiscent of how the Impala SS was perceived as a performance sedan and strives to take the place occupied until last year by the Dodge Charger muscle saloon.

As a reminder, the latter – just like the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger ceased production in December, and when it returns later this year with a new generation, it will be a two-door fastback coupe all over again – one equipped with two 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six turbo mills plus Banshee EV powertrains – so its niche is now wide open and GM's for the taking, if it wants to.
