Webber to Drive for Vettel in Brazil, Abu Dhabi

Sebastian Vettel may have very slight chances of clinching the 2009 Formula One title, but he can sure rely on the help of his teammate Mark Webber for the remaining 2 rounds of the season. The Australian driver is officially out of the title race and will become Vettel's lieutenant in Brazil and Abu Dhabi, as the duo has to work together to break the Brawn supremacy this season.

“Mark is a team player and understands that he must now support Sebastian,” said Red Bull Racing's boss Christian Horner, according to Germany's Sport Bild magazine.

“If the team asks me to, I will drive for Sebastian,” added the Australian driver.

Thanks to his win at Suzuka, Vettel is now only 16 points from Jenson Button in the overall classification, but it is expected that the upcoming Brazilian Grand Prix will better suit the Red Bulls than the Brawns. Under the circumstances, Vettel could be going for the win at Interlagos and further close the gap on the British driver before the season finale at Abu Dhabi.

Apart from Mark's support, the German driver may also benefit from the teammate battle between Button and Rubens Barrichello. The Brazilian is also in the title fight for the remainder of the season and will most certainly not allow his teammate to finish ahead of him before his home crowd in Brazil.

Vettel will nonetheless have to look for engine preservation in the next two races, as he has already used all of his 8 power plants this season. In the event of having to use an extra one, a 10-place grid penalty will be enforced by the FIA for that particular event.
