Webber Hinted He Might Quit at the End of 2011

A lot has been written and said about Mark Webber's one year extension with Red Bull Racing, that will keep the 33-year old Australian at Milton Keynes for another season, in 2011. And that was because only days before inking that new contract, Webber was involved in a racing incident with teammate Sebastian Vettel who, aside from the fact that he's seen as the future of the team, is also a protege of team owner Dietrich Mateschitz.

However, although several media suggested that it was Red Bull's decision to extend Webber's stay by a single year, the Australian comes with new information on this topic. He says it was his personal decision to sign a one-year extension only, as he's not sure he will have the motivation to continue with the team from that point onwards. However, he insisted he won't retire from F1 at the end of 2011.

I am taking each year as it comes now. In two years, perhaps I will not be hungry enough anymore. But that doesn't mean I'll end my career in 2011. If you had asked me in 2005 if I would still be in Formula One in 2011, I would have said 'no way!'” said Webber in an interview with Auto Bild Motorsport.

People think I'm under pressure because I have to fight each year for a contract, but that's not right,” added the Aussie, who admitted however that moving to another team from Red Bull is highly unlikely. Meaning he'll either continue with the Austrian organization from 2012 onwards, or quit the series.

Webber was recently linked with a switch to Ferrari, but Felipe Massa's 2-year extension with the Scuderia until the end of 2012 makes such a move impossible even at the end of 2011.
