Webber Admits Team Switch Possible in 2011

Following his back-to-back wins in the Formula One championship this year – Spain and Monaco – Mark Webber's status in the future contract negotiations with Red Bull Racing has grown considerably. The Austrian team no longer holds the upper hand now, as the 33-year old racer showed everyone what he's capable of once he gets his car to speed.

Webber's contract runs out at the end of the 2010 campaign and several rumors have surfaced in the media in recent weeks about the prospect of him leaving to Ferrari. After days of keeping quiet on this topic, Webber finally revealed his intentions for the season to come.

I've just won two races, back-to-back, and people are asking me where I'm going to drive next year. I'm very close to the guys at Red Bull, we've been through a lot, and I have a great relationship with them,” said Webber to Daily Mail newspaper, hinting that his first choice would definitely be Red Bull, especially since the team grew to become the series' front-runner in recent years.

In addition to his racing career, Webber also co-owns a GP3 team with Red Bull manager Christian Horner. However, as high as he is rated right now for his perfect performances in Barcelona and Monte Carlo, Webber admitted everything could change dramatically in the months to come. Consequently, switching to another team may be something he'll be forced into later in the season.

Yet things happen and change very fast in this business, and you never know what's around the corner,” added the current leader of the F1 classification.

Although known to favor Sebastian Vettel in his team, Red Bull's Dietrich Mateschitz admitted that he looks at Webber as “stereotype of the fair, athletic sportsman,” in an interview with Germany's Bild am Sonntag.
