Automakers tell us that cars are better today than they were a decade ago, but in some cases, that's not really true. Because of emissions regulations and heavy airbags, a Peugeot 208 for example isn't all that brisk compared to a 205 from yesteryear. However, supercars are a totally different thing, as you're about to witness in this video, showing the brutal acceleration of a McLaren 650S.
Because GoPro cameras have become cheaper and have decent resolution, "tachovideos" like this one where people push cars hard have become quite frequent. But we didn't expect to see one featuring the McLaren 650S quite so soon.

The British turbocharged supercar is more than just "impressive", it's bordering on mind-blowing. 0 to 100 km/h takes just 3 seconds, while 0 to 200 km/h takes 8.4 seconds. The 650 horsepower machine can even top 300 km/h in 27 seconds, comparable to a Lamborghini Aventador's numbers.

In case you've been living under a rock since the start of 2014 and don't know what the 650S is, we're more than glad to set you strait. It's an evolution of the now famous McLaren MP4-12, which packs a 650 horsepower version of the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8. The 2014 model also looks different, following the futuristic lines set by the P1 hybrid hyper. But the deeper bumper and extra carbon cladding isn't just for show. It also has 24% more downforce at 150 miles per hour, which improves cornering.

New features include Airbrake system, ProActive Chassis Control suspension system, IRIS satellite navigation, DAB digital radio and optionally available fixed-back carbon racing seats.
