After winning the last nine consecutive WRC titles with Citroen, French driver Sebastien Loeb decided to end his rallying career with a part time 2013 season. His last WRC race occurred this weekend in France, where Loeb retired after “parking” his Citroen DS3 racer in the forest, upside down.
Loeb and his co-driver, Daniel Elena, crashed during the final day of Rally de France, while trying catch up on fellow countryman and race leader Sebastien Ogier (Volkswagen). Fortunately, both Loeb and Elena managed to get out of the wrecked car unscathed, which proves once again that today’s WRC safety regulations are more than effective.
During the same event, Volkswagen Polo WRC driver Sebastien Ogier sealed this year's title race after winning the rally with an overall time of 2:53:07.6 hours, 12 seconds ahead of Citroen’s Dani Sordo. With only two races left, Ogier is the new WRC champion.
