There’s a very good reason why passing vehicles on the right is illegal in countries where motorists drive on the right side of the road, and that is because such a maneuver exposes the road users to completely unnecessary risks. Now, some fellows seem to ignore the dangers of passing on the right, dangers which include slow vehicles, cars stopped in the emergency lane, or even plain drivers who plan to exit the road.
One does not have to be a traffic expert to figure out that even passing on the right at decent speed is risky, especially when obstacles bar the road ahead. Being caught between a vehicle driving in the left adjacent lane and the obstacle leaves rather few options to save the day, with driving off the road being one of them, in case the rail guard is absent in that sector. And when some extra mph are added to this already dangerous concoctions, even the best drivers or riders will most likely not able to stop in time to avoid an impact.

The video below was apparently recorded on the Russian M2 highway in the Moscow region. The M2 links the Russian capital Moscow and the city of Simferopol in the Crimean peninsula. The crash is pretty self-explanatory, with the rider’s big mistake being the choice to use what appears to be one of the emergency lanes for passing cars on the right side.

Miscalculation of speed and available distance for passing caused him to clip a truck and be ejected to the middle of the road, with the Ford Focus driver barely able to avoid running him over. Even though highways are usually dull and boring roads, this Ford driver is the perfect example showing that being alert at all times behind the wheel pays off.
