One of the most frustrating things that can happen to you as a motoring journalist is to get the chance to test drive a convertible in the middle of winter.
It's December the 14th, so that moment is still a full month away, but it's cold and rainy enough to make the prospect of a roof over your head a very welcome one. Still, when you get your hands on one of the hottest convertibles of the moment, the Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet, you risk everything - including a bad case of sinusitis - just to get the full experience.

Well, that's what the mystery host of the AutoTopNL YouTube channel did, and we can't say we don't agree with him. Except he went beyond the call of duty and pushed the sports car to 186 mph (300 kph) with the top down, something we're not so sure we'd be brave enough to do. Even though, to be fair, there is absolutely no air getting in at that kind of speed, so it's probably not as bad as it sounds.

Speaking of sound, what's your take on the one produced by the new 992 Turbo S? Like most straight-six engines, it's a weird one: it has plenty of character - though not nearly as much as a high-revving naturally aspirated one like that of a 911 GT3 - and yet it's somewhat flat. However, given the performance enabled by the 3.8-liter unit in the Turbo S, we doubt a lot of people will think twice about its aural presence before deciding to buy one.

The Dragy data shows the 911 Turbo S Cabriolet needed 2.81 seconds to reach 100 kph (62 mph), which is 0.11 more than the official 2.7 time. However, there are two factors at play here: one, the road surface was wet and, as the first acceleration run filmed from the outside shows, that translated into a fair bit of wheelspin; second, the run was made with the top down, which is akin to laughing in the face of aerodynamics. We bet it was fun, though.
